We’re calling it; eyebrows are surely one of the most important – yet underrated – features on your face.
One of the easiest and most effective ways to get fuller and more defined eyebrows is by using a brow gel.
“Think of any brow gel like that final spritz of hairspray as you walk out the door … it should always be the last product you apply and you should never forget it,” Samantha Tonkin, the National Brow and Beauty Authority at Benefit Cosmetics tells news.com.au.
“I often think about how much care and maintenance I put into the hair on my head and how few of us give the same care to our brows.”
Whether you opt for a clear formulation to hold brows in place, a tinted option to add colour or even a brow gel containing fibres to increase the volume of your eyebrows, we’ve hand-picked a selection of the best brow gels based on customer reviews and ratings.
BEST BROW GEL TO GET THE ‘LAMINATED’ LOOK
Benefit Fluff Up Brow Wax, $48 at Adore Beauty
The latest launch from Benefit Cosmetics just so happens to be the thing you need to achieve the ‘laminated’ brow look from home – no salon necessary.
Benefit’s Fluff Up Brow Wax is designed to create fluffy brows, without the annoying crunchy feel. The formulation is also packed with jojoba seed oil, shea butter and argan oil to nourish and condition your brow hairs.
In just a short time, it’s racked up well over 2,000 five star ratings on Google Reviews, with countless happy customers calling it the new “holy grail” product for their eyebrows.
I’ve been trialling it myself and after testing loads of brow gels on the market, I have to say, this is one of my favourites.
I am super lazy with my brow routine. Unlike other ‘laminated’ brow products, this gel is super easy to work with. On first application, there is a bit of white product residue but that dries into a clear, flake-free finish almost instantly.
The formulation itself offers incredible hold, giving your brows that ‘fluffy’ texture. It’s also super easy to work the product in and get the exact brow look you want.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze, $40 at Sephora
Need to control those unruly brow hairs? Get a hold of this long-lasting styling wax that works to lift your brows and keep them there all day long.
The formulation works hard to keep every brow hair in the exact position you place it. I’ve been using this for almost a year and it does a fantastic job at holding my crazy brow hairs in place.
While it does dry clear, you do need to work the product before applying it straight to your brow.
It’s recommended to use the Brow Freeze Applicator (you can buy it on the Sephora website for $30 here) to warm the formula on the back of your hand (or any other surface). Then using the brush and working in small, quick strokes, create that lifted, feathered brow.
Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Freeze has racked up well over 1,300 five-star ratings on the Sephora website with many thanking it for giving them “feathery, fluffed-up brows”. Other five-star rating customers described it as “Botox for your brows”, noting it “lasts forever”.
BEST BUDGET-FRIENDLY BROW GEL

E.L.F. Clear Brow & Lash Mascara, $5 at iHerb
Shopping on a budget? The E.L.F. Clear Brow and Lash Mascara is our top pick, coming in at $5. Similar to the one from Maybelline we mentioned above, this double-duty product can be used on both your eyelashes and eyebrows. The clear gel looks incredibly natural while also giving you all day hold.
BEST COLOURED BROW GEL
Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow, $48 at The Iconic
According to Benefit Cosmetics’ Samantha Tonkin, over 16 million Gimme Brow’s have been sold since it’s first launch in 2013.
So it’s safe to say, this nifty little brow gel is one of the best-selling and most popular products to come from the Benefit Cosmetics line.
The tinted, water-resistant and long-wearing eyebrow gel is suitable for all brow types. You simply brush the coloured gel through your brow and watch the tiny microfibres cling onto your skin and hairs to create the look of a fuller and more defined brow. It simplifies your routine – there’s no need to use an eyebrow pencil or powder because this gel does all the magic for you.
We also love the tiny brow brush – it’s tapered so you can really get into every nook and cranny of your eyebrow and style it exactly how you want. news.com.au checkout’s Edwina Carr Barraclough has been using Gimme Brow for several years and believes it’s the best brow gel for anyone “who is time poor and wants one overarching brow gel to create both colour, shape and hold.”
Maybelline Brow Fast Sculpt Brow Gel Mascara, $13.99 at Amazon Australia
If you’re looking for a similar idea to Benefit’s Gimme Brow at a cheaper price, you could go for the Brow Fast Sculpt Gel from Maybelline, Obviously the formulations are not the exact same, but they both offer a pigmented gel in an easy-to-use mini brow brush. This one is available in six shades and promises all day hold. One five star Amazon reviewer said it “holds brows in place all day.”
Ere Perez Argan Brow Hero, $44 at The Iconic

BEST CLEAR BROW GEL
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel, $42 at Adore Beauty
One of my personal favourite brow gels on the market is this one from Anastasia Beverly Hills, a trusted brow brand in the beauty industry.
The clear brow gel is super long-wearing and holds my brows in place all day long. I use it everyday – even on those no-makeup days – and I can trust that my brows won’t move. It never feels sticky or gross, and the lightweight formulation adds a slight shine to my brows.
What’s my favourite thing about this brow gel? The wand. The brush is really big and defined and it allows me to brush my brows into place and create a super full look which I adore.
Benefit Cosmetics 24 Hour Brow Setter, $48 at The Iconic
Another winning product from the Benefit Cosmetics brow line-up is the 24 Hour Brow Setter Gel. I’ve gone through a few tubes of this product myself and I can definitely agree with the 24 hour statement. The gel tames and locks your brows into place for all day wear. The unique wand is super flexible and allows you to get into every nook and cranny, catching every stray eyebrow hair for that perfect brow look.
MAC Cosmetics Brow Set, $34 at The Iconic
Comb and style your brows on the go with this gel from MAC Cosmetics. You can stroke and style your eyebrow hairs into place, all while adding a slight shine.
The formulation promises to be both waterproof and longwearing, never flaking and never clumping. While they are some big claims, a five-star reviewer on The Iconic described it as being an “everyday essential.”
R+Co Magic Wand Brow Gel, $29 at Adore Beauty
With one five-star Adore Beauty reviewer claiming this to be the “best brow gel I’ve used so far”, the R+Co Magic Wand Gel had to make it onto our roundup.
The product promises to give your brows a groomed, thickened and more defined look, without the dreaded flaky bits and sticky feeling. It’s designed to last in your brows all day long, and it’s also infused with hollyhock flower extract to hydrate and condition your brow hairs. Lovely.
