Police are probing a vicious lunch time fight between six students at Grange P-12 College that left some teenagers “covered in blood”.

Police are investigating a vicious fight at a Hoppers Crossing high school that left some students “covered in blood”.

Six students aged between 14 and 16 at Grange P-12 College were involved in a brawl at lunch time on Tuesday.

There are unconfirmed reports of the incident at the Deloraine Drive campus involving gang-related issues and involving a stabbing.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said two students were injured during the violent incident.

“The matter was reported to police and the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers,” they said.

A letter to parents from principal David Smillie said some of the students involved in the brawl were “recently enrolled”.

“We do have a very safe school and this is the first of a major incident,” he wrote.

“Please note that police are involved and I have Department of Education security organised to attend the school this week.

“As a principal I have outlined previously that I cannot accept violence at our school. My understanding is that this was an issue related to the broader community and was brought into the school.

“I know a number of students were shocked at this behaviour and are unaccustomed to witnessing this at The Grange P-12 College.”

A spokesperson from the Education Department said wellbeing support was being offered to staff and students at the school.

“An incident at The Grange P-12 College (on Tuesday) involving a small number of students does not reflect the values or behaviour of the vast majority of students at the school,” they said.

“Immediate and appropriate disciplinary action was taken against those involved.”

It’s the latest in a string of alarming violent incidents at Victorian schools, with a 16-year-old boy from Melton taken to hospital last week after he was allegedly stabbed by another student from Staughton College.

In February a primary school student from Craigieburn South Primary School was stabbed with a pair of scissors by another student.

Teachers are also reporting a raft of incidents. “Recently a student pushed a teacher down a set of stairs – teacher did not have serious injuries luckily – they caught it on CCTV and in the video you could clearly see that’s what the student had done but (the school) refused to take any action,” one educator said in an online forum.

Discussion about student behaviour comes after a Senate Inquiry recommended in December schools introduce a national “behaviour curriculum” to curb classroom disruptions.

The school has been contacted for comment.
