On Tuesday, a parent at the school said the incident occurred within the school grounds about the same time students were expected to finish school.

“There were teachers telling other kids to get away,” she said.

“It was very confronting.”

The mother of a child at the school said she was “freaked out” when her daughter told her about the alleged stabbing.

“She said she saw so much blood. She came home in tears,” she said.

Other mums said it might be time to send their children to a private school.

Several staff members remained at the school Tuesday evening and supervised a cordoned-off section within the school grounds.

While the gates were originally opened, once staff were alerted to a media presence the front gates were shut.

A Department of Education spokesman said violence wasn’t tolerated at the school.

“Any form of violence is not tolerated at Victorian government schools, and Staughton College is working with Victoria Police to investigate the matter,” he said.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident were yet to be established and investigations were continuing.
