Two teenagers have been banned from contacting fellow gang members as part of their bail conditions after they faced court over a fatal stabbing at St Kilda foreshore.

Community leader's plea for violence to stop

Two teenage gangsters who were arrested following the stabbing death of Hashim Mohamed at the St Kilda foreshore have been released on bail.

The teens, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, faced a Children’s Court on Thursday, where they were granted bail on strict conditions, including bans from contacting any members of their “gang”, the Original Gangster Killers.

The teens were remanded behind bars following their arrests in Fitzroy last week.

They are charged with unlawful assault and affray.

Neither of the teens have entered pleas.

The court said neither of the teens were charged Hashim’s death, and that bail conditions would alleviate concerns it otherwise would have had about releasing the teens from custody.

The teens, aged 16 and 17, will both be required to comply with an overnight curfew.

They were also banned from the St Kilda foreshore, from contacting any co-accuseds, and from contacting fellow gang members.

The younger teen was also ordered to submit to a DNA test.

The court has previously heard Hashim was killed during a confrontation involving up to 13 gang members, some of whom were armed with knives.

They fought with other youths for about 30 seconds before the Hashim, of Tarneit, was stabbed in the back with a large blade.

The court heard the knife was embedded so deep it protruded out of Mr Mohamed’s chest and was not removed until a post-mortem examination. After the fight, which was captured on CCTV, members of the public surrounded Mr Mohamed to protect him from further attack.

The duo return to court on February 16.
