Two men who allegedly fled overseas after the shooting of former bikie Sam Abdulrahim are set to be charged with attempted murder.
Police obtained warrants to arrest the two men last week as part of their investigation into the non-fatal shooting of the underworld identity in Fawkner in June 2022.
The two 19-year-old men are both still believed to be overseas in the Middle East.
The men will be charged with attempted murder and other serious criminal offences upon their return to Australia.
No court date has been set.
Abdulrahim, 30, was leaving a relative’s funeral on June 25 when the alleged ambush unfolded in broad daylight.
He was shot eight times.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill, of the crime command, said it had been an exhaustive investigative effort by detectives working the case.
“This is testament to the work undertaken by a range of a partner agencies – both in Australia and abroad – to identify these men,” Mr Hill said.
“I am confident that in the fullness of time these two individuals will be arrested and extradited back to Australia where they will face their day of reckoning at court.
“We understand that incidents such as this – the shooting and subsequent carjacking – cause significant concern across the broader community.
“It’s critical that those who choose to engage in this kind of violent behaviour understand that they will be identified.
“Police will ensure that all necessary resources are utilised to identify those responsible and hold them to account.”
