Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe has shared a photo of her smirking on a Harley Davidson, just two months after an affair with a bikie boss saw her threatened with censure from parliament.
The image posted to Instagram shows her sitting atop a black motorbike with the caption “ran into some old mates”.
In the image, two bikies dressed in black stand with her.
The provocative post has garnered a flurry of comments from her followers, with one supporter commenting “iconic and bold ASF I love this”.
“This is fkn gold,” another fan wrote.
Ms Thorpe was dropped from her role as the Greens’ deputy senate leader after shocking revelations in October revealed she had a romantic relationship with ex-Rebels’ leader Dean Martin, while simultaneously serving on a committee looking into bikie gangs.
Not heeding advice from her staff, the senator had not disclosed her relationship to Greens leader Adam Bandt and had used an encrypted messaging app to talk with Martin.
Harley Davidson’s sustainability vision is to “preserve and renew the freedom to ride” and while the company has a goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the brand only sells one type of electric bike and the rest all require petrol.
The company’s 2021 annual report also revealed over two thirds of their environmental impact was due to greenhouse gases.
Ms Thorpe’s party, by comparison, want “net zero or net negative Australian greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 or sooner” and the Greens also campaign for “removal of all subsidies to the fossil fuel industry”.
Compared to other motorcycles on the market from companies including Yamaha and Honda, Harley Davidson’s fuel-powered bikes use significantly more petrol for less distance.
