Essendon supplements scandal figure Shane Charter says the taxman can “kiss my arse” after being hit with a $2 million bill.

The Australian Taxation Office notice was handed to Charter after his arrest on Thursday by organised crime detectives from the Echo task force.

The bill was served on the same day Charter won a $3.4 million property dispute against accused underworld money man Tom Karas.

Charter told the Herald Sun the property dispute win and the tax bill being served hours later, while he was still in custody, was no coincidence.

“I reckon they thought it was a good time to serve that,” Charter said.

“The ATO can kiss my arse. I’ll fight them self-represented.”

Charter said GST on human growth hormone prescribed to patients was at the root of his tax issue.

He said cases where it was for medical purposes and should be GST-free were being regarded as cosmetic by the ATO.

“It’s a blanket approach to every single script,” he said.

Charter is a biochemist who runs a Dr Ageless clinic in the Nicholson St, Fitzroy, house which was at the centre of the dispute with Karas.

He said a client list which includes gangland figures and friends Sam Abdulrahim and Toby Mitchell made him a target for police.

A Victoria Police statement issued after the arrest said it was related to an “investigation into drug trafficking linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs.”

Charter is a convicted drug trafficker but said he should be able to treat all patients, regardless of their background.

He said computers, patient files and medications were taken away by Echo on Thursday in what was a flagrant attempt to damage the business.

“They (police) think we’ve got too many people coming into the clinic they don’t like,” Charter said.

“You should be able to treat all people equally. Don’t call it victimisation because I’m not a victim. It’s targeting. Unless you deem going to the doctor to be drug trafficking, I don’t see it.”

Charter was also interviewed for failing to tell police the PIN code of his mobile phone.

He said he refused because it contained confidential patient information and he wanted a barrister’s opinion before consenting.

The dispute over the Nicholson St property began in 2019 when Shane Charter and his brother Craig changed the locks while Karas was out at a funeral.

The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Charters on Thursday.

“It’s one-hundred per cent the right result. Case law shows it’s the right result,” Shane Charter said.

Dr Ageless has been treating Abdulrahim in the months since he was riddled with bullets while attending his cousin’s funeral at Fawkner Cemetery.

He said the former Mongol bikie and kickboxer was making great progress in his recovery after a stint in critical care after the ambush.

The 54-year-old came to public prominence during the Essendon Football Club saga when it was revealed he had supplied supplements to sports scientist Stephen Dank for use by players.
