Tyrone Mobourne hands himself into police after Corey Sullivan killed in Maffra hit-run

A man has handed himself into police after a much-loved father of five and cricketer was killed in a Maffra hit and run earlier this month.

A man has handed himself into police after detectives appealed for him to come forward following a hit-run tragedy at Maffra which killed Corey Sullivan.

Police arrested Tyrone Mobourne, 24, on Wednesday afternoon after he handed himself into a police station.

“He is currently assisting police with their inquiries,” a Victoria Police statement said on Wednesday.

The arrest comes after Mr Mobourne, of no fixed-address, had been missing for more than three weeks.

Detectives appealed for information on his whereabouts on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Sullivan, 36, died after being hit by a stolen Kia car on Morrison St on February 5.

It is alleged the driver fled in the Kia, which was later found on Roberts Court in Maffra the next morning.

Mr Sullivan was a devoted husband to Ashlea Sullivan and was a father of five with an “infectious” personality.

He was also a talented cricketer for the Heyfield Cricket Club that will be “sorely missed”.

In a statement days after his death, Heyfield CC president Glen Synnott said the death would leave a huge hole in the small community.

“Corey was a proud premiership player, captain, curator, committee member and former Graeme Anderson Club Champion medallist at our club,” he said.

“From myself, the committee and our club and families, our deepest sympathies to Ashlea and their children and to Corey’s family.

“An infectious character that will be sorely missed by us all.”

The investigation is ongoing.
