Corey Sullivan killed in Maffra hit-run

A devoted father and husband has been remembered for his love of cricket after he was killed in a horror hit-run crash in Gippsland.

Corey Sullivan, 36, died when he was mowed down by a stolen Kia on Morrison St in Maffra about 3.40am on Sunday.

It’s understood Mr Sullivan’s mate Bailey Smith saw the tragedy unfold and called emergency services for help.

Mr Sullivan was flown to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne with head injuries but later died.

The driver fled the scene and dumped the stolen car on Roberts Court where it was found three hours later by police.

Victoria Police confirmed no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon but said the investigation remained ongoing.

The father-of-five was a loving husband to Ashlea Sullivan and a talented cricketer at Heyfield Cricket Club.

In a statement, president Glen Synnott said Mr Sullivan had an “infectious” personality.

“Corey was a proud premiership player, captain, curator, committee member and former Graeme Anderson Club Champion medallist at our club,” he said.

“From myself, the committee and our club and families, our deepest sympathies to Ashlea and their children and to Corey’s family.

“An infectious character that will be sorely missed by us all.”

Friends took to social media to pay tribute to Mr Sullivan, describing him as an “awesome bloke”.

“I will always remember Corey for his cheeky ways,” Jeff Percy said.

“My heart is broken …”

Heath Straughair said he was a “great man”.

“I will never forget the times he use to want us to punch him in the abs so he could show off just how tough he was,” he said.

“He was a genuine laugh, a good-hearted man.”

A GoFundMe page was created to help Mr Sullivan’s family in the future.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
