Human remains believed to belong to missing Rosebud man Jake Bradford have been discovered in South Gippsland on what would have been his 23rd birthday.

Missing Persons Squad detectives located the remains in remote bushland off Dollar-Woorarra West Rd in Dollar, near Foster about 10.30am on Wednesday.

The remains, yet to be formally identified, are believed to belong to Mr Bradford who suspiciously went missing on January 29 last year, then aged 21.

Detectives in March last year charged Korumburra man Kayle Hansen with Mr Bradford’s alleged murder.

Those detectives, alongside the major crime scene units and forensic officers travelled to the bushland on Wednesday morning.

Police have advised the coroner and a post-mortem will occur.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Burnett form the Serious Crime Division said he hoped Wednesday’s discovery would provide his family with some closure.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with Jake’s family and friends today, on what would have been Jake’s 23rd birthday,” he said.

“The past eighteen months have been an incredibly difficult time for them and their grief remains as raw as ever.

“The investigative efforts by the Missing Persons Squad have been tireless in pursuing every avenue of inquiry so we could provide answers to Jake’s family.

“We know this has been an incredibly traumatic time for them. We hope that this will bring the closure they need and Jake can finally be laid to rest.”

It is understood Mr Bradford became involved in an altercation in the Foster North area about a week before his mother reported him missing.
