A Korumburra man charged with murder has faced court for the first time as police continue to search for a body.

Victoria Police’s Missing Persons Squad charged Kayle Hansen, 25, with the alleged murder of Jake Bradford on Saturday night.

Mr Bradford, who is from Rosebud, was reported missing by his mother on January 29.

It is believed Mr Bradford was involved in an altercation in the Foster North area on or around January 24.

His disappearance was deemed suspicious and investigations have led to the charges being laid.

Hansen was remanded in custody and appeared in the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on Monday.

During the short hearing the prosecution asked for a longer than normal amount of time to serve the hand up brief due to a “large” and “extensive” search still happening to locate Mr Bradford’s body.

The extra time was also sought due to cyber crime analysis needing to be conducted on multiple phones. The court heard Mt Hansen had refused to provide police with the password to his phone.

The court heard police were still gathering CCTV footage, taking statements, and waiting on results from forensic testing done on two motor vehicles.

Mr Hansen was remanded into custody to appear before the court again later this year.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report online.
