A Geelong bodybuilder and actor, who once played a young Arnold Schwarzenegger in a film, is planning to revive his career in America having avoided a conviction for two “frightening” road rage incidents.

Calum von Moger, 32, was sentenced at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty last month to a series of charges, including criminal damage and possessing a prohibited weapon.

The court heard that the three-time Mr Universe winner was arguing with a motorist in an Altona North supermarket car park in January this year – after he hit their car – before he pulled a knife and “stabbed” their tyre in a fit of rage.

“Your conduct can only be described as frightening and totally unacceptable,” Magistrate Roslyn Porter said.

His car was later searched by police, who found a knuckle duster, a tomahawk and a hunting knife.

Von Moger had also been accused of affray and conduct endangering persons, but those charges had since been dropped.

The 32-year-old was also involved in another road rage incident in November last year, when he rear-ended a car while riding his motorbike through South Yarra and drove off without supplying his details.

He had described himself as getting “angry” that the car had braked suddenly, prompting him to flee.

Von Moger, who was supported by his partner in court, was fined $2500 for the January incident and placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond for his actions in November.

Defence lawyer Bernard Campigli said von Moger – who had been dubbed Arnold 2.0 – has “potential business opportunities in America”.

He successfully argued a conviction would “significantly impact” von Moger’s chances of being employed, which would in turn have a negative effect on his mental health.

The court heard that von Moger was also motivated to move to America to be with his child, who resides there.

“In all the circumstances, the factors weigh in your favour on this occasion of not reporting a conviction,” Ms Porter said.

A psychologist’s report said his mental health had deteriorated since 2018 and played a “significant underlying role” in his offending.

But Ms Porter said he was “making efforts to improve his life and participate in rehabilitation”.

Outside court, von Moger said he was looking forward to returning to America, having starred as Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film Bigger.

In May, the actor also avoided conviction after pleading guilty to possessing drugs including methamphetamine and cannabis.

He was ordered to pay $500 to a court fund and stay in a residential rehabilitation program, which he did for 22 days.

His court appearance in May came weeks after the bodybuilder was placed in an induced coma following a fall from a second-storey window at his Mount Duneed home.

He suffered serious spinal injuries and underwent surgery at The Alfred.
