Geelong actor and former Mr Universe Calum von Moger has avoided conviction after pleading guilty to possessing drugs including methamphetamine and cannabis.

Appearing via video link at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, the bodybuilder had his arm in a sling after suffering a near-fatal fall from a second storey window earlier this month.

Moger’s lawyer, Bernard Campigli, said his client had success as a bodybuilder and actor while living in Los Angeles, including a lead role playing Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film Bigger.

But a violent carjacking left him traumatised and his bodybuilding career was hampered when he tore his quad muscle after falling from a cliff, prompting him to move back to Australia last year.

“Unfortunately, he spiralled out of control soon after he had taken testosterone for a number of years … (and) other substances came into the picture,” Mr Campigli said.

In January this year, Moger was pulled over in Melbourne’s CBD while driving without registration plates.

Police conducted a search of the car after noticing his “erratic behaviour” and enlarged pupils and found bags of white crystal powder, vials of testosterone and other pharmaceutical drugs.

“At the time the offending took place, he had a lot on his plate and after his arrest he spent a night in the cells which was quite a sobering experience for him,” Mr Campigli said.

Moger pleaded guilty to seven charges including possession of methamphetamine, cannabis and pharmaceutical drugs.

His court appearance comes just weeks after the bodybuilder was placed in an induced coma following a fall from a second-storey window at a Mount Duneed home.

He suffered serious spinal injuries and underwent surgery at The Alfred hospital.

Before Moger was injured, he posted to his more 3.3 million Instagram followers saying “everyone has a past”.

“We’ve all been through hard times. I admit. I messed up bad many times,” he wrote.

“But I don’t care about dwelling on negative thoughts of the past. All I care about is that I learn from my mistakes and become a better person. I’m trying my hardest to stay strong but I have my days too.”

The bodybuilder was ordered to pay $500 to a court fund and will take part in a rehabilitation program.

He will reappear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in August to contest an affray charge relating to an incident in a West Melbourne supermarket carpark earlier this year.
