How Charter is helping to ‘fix’ former Mr Universe

He helped “fix up” Toby Mitchell after the ex-bikie boss copped a barrage of bullets, now Shane Charter is patching up bodybuilder Calum Von Moger.

“When they fall apart, I fix ‘em back up,” are fighting words from Shane Charter, who you may well remember as the controversial biochemist embroiled in the Essendon drug scandal.

Charter has sworn off working with AFL players following a lengthy legal battle and is now focusing on “corporates and housewives,” with a few colourful characters thrown in for good measure.

He “fixed up” Toby Mitchell when he “should have been dead” after the former bikie boss copped a rain of bullets: Two are still lodged in there somewhere.

Now, Charter is focusing on buff bodybuilder Calum Von Moger.

We are all used to strange stories tweaking out of Geelong, but the one about the actor who once played Arnold Schwarzenegger falling out of a second story window and in a coma fighting for his life is a doozy.

Von Moger had only recently escaped conviction after pleading guilty to possessing illegal drugs, including methamphetamine and cannabis.

The 31-year-old three-time Mr Universe winner, dubbed Arnold 2.0, underwent a major operation after the May incident in which he suffered a serious spinal injury.

Charter, a former bodybuilder, was with Von Moger when he woke up from his coma this week, saying the former Arnie 2.0 is looking at a long road to recovery, physically and mentally.

Page 13 found Charter among boxer Michael Zerafa’s crew down at North Melbourne Boxing and Fitness on Tuesday watching former AFL stars Dane Swan and Brendan Fevola pump up for the All Stars Boxing – Footy Fight Night at Margaret Court Arena on August 3.

Charter said he worked with Von Moger on the sports doco Unbroken, which focused on the bulked up bodybuilder turned actor’s rising fame and his rehabilitation from what could have been career ending injuries.

Now, Charter says a sequel is in the pipeline around Von Moger fighting back from his mental struggles and anguish.

“It’s gonna be like he what he did with Unbroken. That was a movie about physical injuries. This will be more about mental health which is a lot more relatable.”

It’s a heavy load to lift for the former Mr Universe.
