An Australian actor, bodybuilder and former Mr Universe is said to be in an induced coma and fighting for life after injuring his spine last week.

Former Mr Universe Calum von Moger is in a coma and fighting for his life just days after a heartbreaking post was edited on his Instagram account.

The Australian actor and bodybuilder, 31, seriously injured his spine on May 6 and underwent a major operation, according to Generation Iron.

known for his portrayal of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film Bigger, was still in hospital in an induced coma.

Mr Trigilli claimed he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

Mr von Moger, who has 3.2 million Instagram followers, suffered a large number of cuts in the incident, according to reports.

Mr Trigilli, who runs the ‘BodyBuilding & BS’ YouTube channel, said in his video: “Calum is hitting a rough spot … I hope this is rock bottom for him and he can get his life back.”

According to reports, Mr von Moger was recently kicked out of his family’s house in Australia.

In an emotional post on Instagram edited last week, Mr von Moger said: “Everyone has a past. We’ve all been through hard times. I admit, I messed up bad many times.

“But I don’t care about dwelling on negative thoughts of the past. All I care about is that I learn from my mistakes and become a better person.

“The positive achievements I’ve done in my life far outweigh the muck-ups I had along the way.

“All I can ask is for your forgiveness so I can keep moving forward on the right path again.”

Fans show their support

Fans rushed to share messages of support on Mr von Moger’s latest Instagram post after learning about his injury.

One said: “Praying for you man. You were my first inspiration with fitness and I’m hoping you get through these hard times.”

Another said: “Praying for you. Pray for this man everyone.”

Bodybuilder Jason Poston said: “Praying for you big guy … and you know I don’t just say that.”

The post was two photos of Mr von Moger side-by-side – one from 2018 and one from 2022 – acknowledging his successful recovery after a leg injury four years ago.

“4 years ago on April 19th I completely tore my quad off the bone,” the caption read.

“I Couldn’t walk for 8 weeks and had to start bodybuilding from scratch over again. 2.5 years later I won the npc mr. universe and received my pro card. If I can do it, so can you.”

The official Instagram account of Mr von Moger’s clothing line has reshared stories from fans wishing him to get well soon and asking people to pray for him.

Some shared pictures of themselves in the gym, dedicating their session to their “inspiration”.

Legal troubles

Mr von Moger is facing charges after police allegedly found him in possession of drugs of dependence, including methylamphetamine and cannabis, in Melbourne on January 31, Herald Sun previously reported.

Police allege he was stopped in a vehicle without number plates “affixed or displayed in accordance with regulations” and that officers also allegedly uncovered testosterone cypionate, viaplex, and proviplex in his possession.

The case was adjourned to May 26.

Mr von Moger has also been charged with affray and criminal injury in relation to a separate incident in January, according to The Age.

Who is Calum von Moger?

Mr von Moger, dubbed Arnold 2.0, is from Geelong in Victoria and is of Austrian and Dutch heritage.

As a young child he was raised on a hobby farm in central Victoria with his five siblings.

He moved to Los Angeles in October 2014 and back to Australia in October last year.

He is a three time Mr Universe winner, and has also been in three films.

He was in documentary films Generation Iron 2 in 2017 and Calum Von Moger: Unbroken in 2019.

He played Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2018 American comedy-drama Bigger.

Mr von Moger’s interest in fitness started at a young age.

“At age 14, he and his brother started training at an old warehouse with rusty iron dumbbells and barbells,” his website says.

“It was at this time when Calum learned about the body and how to build muscle.”
