Bendigo family reeling as alleged stabbing of mum Logee Osias follows dad’s death

Police have charged an ex-partner over the alleged murder of Logee Osias, as her young children come to terms with losing both parents to tragedies in recent years.

Alleged Murder of Logee Osias is the second tragedy to strike Bendigo family

A mother’s alleged murder at the hands of her former partner is the second tragedy to strike the Bendigo family in just three years.

The Herald Sun can reveal that four children have lost two parents after 46-year-old Logee Osias was allegedly stabbed to death inside her Kangaroo Flat home, while her young daughters were inside on Sunday night.

A 44-year-old Junortoun man, believed to be Ms Osias’ former partner, allegedly attacked the mother inside her High St home about 1150pm.

One of her young daughters is believed to have dialled triple-0.

Five hours later police pulled the man from a nearby reservoir near Harcourt North Rd and arrested him.

Police charged the man with the murder of Ms Osias on Tuesday afternoon. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Bendigo Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Ms Osias’ two young daughters, Tiarna, 9, and Anataylah, 6, both attend St Monica’s Catholic Primary School, where they have been offered support in the wake of their mother’s death.

Principal Fiona Dearne said the school was “deeply shocked and saddened” over the mother-of-four’s untimely death.

“We extend our prayerful sympathy and support to all of Logee’s family and friends,” the school leader said in a statement.

“We will do everything we can to support Tiarna and Anataylah and all who loved Logee during this difficult time.

“We have provided care packages for the girls as a demonstration of the love and support of the St Monica’s community.

“Members of the school community will be able to access counselling support as required.

“We have also gathered as a staff to pray and plan ongoing support for the family and school community.

Analyn Osias, affectionately known as Logee, will be honoured at a vigil in Quarry Hill this evening.

Earlier, Ms Logee’s loved ones told the Herald Sun the dedicated mother often enjoyed walking around the reservoir where police apprehended her former partner.

Ms Osias’ death comes about three years after her then partner was killed when he was run over after arguing with a taxi driver about a late-night fare in May 2020.

Tim Dorrough, 40, got out of the cab about 2.50am after the confrontation with the driver and was fatally struck by a Holden Commodore on the Calder Freeway at Kangaroo Flat.

The father-of-two was on his way home from Saturday night drinks when the car struck him, killing him at the scene.

Friends remembered Mr Dorrough, at the time, as a “legend” who was taken too soon.

He worked as a security guard in various venues before his death.

Friends who knew both Ms Osias and Mr Dorrough say they are devastated for the pair’s four children, who have all lost two parents “in tragic ways”.

It is understood Ms Osias’ eldest daughter, 20, has taken the two youngest children, Ms Osias’ six and nine-year-old daughters, into her care.

Ms Osias also has an older son, who did not live at the High St home.

Her close friend Roma O’Donnell told the Herald Sun her four children were “devastated” by their mother’s death so soon after reeling from the loss of their father.

“My family’s heart breaks for this family. Having lost both parents within three years shouldn’t be anything anyone has to go through,” Ms O’Donnell said.

“I want people to remember that she’s the kindest, most generous person I know. Such a loving mom to her four kids. (She was) the strongest, especially when it comes to her kids.”

Ms O’Donnell said she considered Ms Osias more of a sister than a friend, who loved spending time outdoors and with her family.

“The only family she had in Australia are her four kids. The rest live in the Philippines,” she said.

“Logee loved to go on walks, whether it be around the lake or reservoir. She loved catching up with friends and cooking.

“Whenever she has friends over (at) her house, she makes sure we’re all fed well.”

Ms O’Donnell said she and Ms Osias often enjoyed catching up with friends who were also part of Bendigo’s Filipino community.

“My favourite memory of Logee would have to be our weekly game of Tong-its, a Filipino card game,” she said.

“We play every Monday night at her house, with our other good friend.”

Bendigo’s Filipino community will pay tribute to Ms Osias at a vigil in Quarry Hill, near Bendigo, on Tuesday evening.

Close friend of Mr Dorrough Tori Shai said: “My heart aches for the children that have now lost both of their parents”.

“I know Timmy would be incredibly devastated if he was still here.”

Ms Osias’ alleged killer remained in hospital under police guard on Monday night.

Homicide detectives are expected to question him over Ms Logee’s death today.
