Footy 18: Mark Robinson and David King preview Collingwood’s 2018 season

THE MCG might be Collingwood’s home ground but the home of football has been anything but a happy hunting ground for the Magpies in recent times. In fact, their record is terrible. WATCH AS ROBBO AND DAVID KING PREVIEW THEIR SEASON

Is Collingwood good enough?

THE MCG is Collingwood’s home ground and the Magpies play five of their first six games at the venue in 2018, but is that a good thing?

Collingwood’s recent record at the MCG is terrible and will need to change that dramatically given it is fixtured to play 14 games there in 2018, the same amount it did in 2017.

Herald Sun columnist David King has revealed Nathan Buckley’s team has won just four of their last 17 games at the MCG, plus a draw, and questioned whether the Magpies would even want to play there given that poor record.

Herald Sun chief football writer said that is a “frightening” stat heading into what is a make or break year for Collingwood and for re-signed coach Buckley.

Will 2018 be the year the Magpies return to the finals?

Robbo and King are split — both don’t have them in their predicted top eight but King is optimistic.

“I actually think they’re good enough,” he says as he and Robinson preview Collingwood’s season.

“It wouldn’t shock me if they had a drastic rise but it also wouldn’t shock me if they stayed or even dropped a fraction on the ladder given the start — that first six weeks, they’ve got to be three and three.”

Robinson and King preview all things Collingwood for Footy 18, the Herald Sun’s 116 page footy magazine.
