Multi-millionaire businessman Adrian Portelli has been revealed as the buyer of Melbourne’s most expensive penthouse for $39m.

Portelli, who runs a tech company, bought the property on levels 57 and 58 of the Sapphire building, which adjoins the 60 storey Shangri-La Hotel near the Carlton Gardens.

“I’m hoping to move into it in 12 months, at the moment it’s concrete walls and I’m quietly in the background designing my new home,’’ he said.

Portelli said there would be a swimming pool in the luxury home which will boast multiple kitchens, bedrooms and potentially a bowling alley.

Portelli now owns more than 20 properties across Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia and is about to enter developments in New South Wales.

Also an owner of 40 plus cars, he is getting one of most prized cars to be craned in to the penthouse as an art installation.

“My lift will go to the bar and the restaurant of the hotel, but I’m not a big fan of living in the city, it might be my weekend retreat,’’ Portelli said.

Portelli, who lives between Melbourne and the Gold Coast, has also invested in a $70m property on the fringe of Melbourne which a consortium plans to develop.

In February the sub-penthouse located above level 75 of the STH BNK By Beulah property sold for a record $38m.

In November Portelli bought The Block home of Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra which he gave away through his company.

He paid around $4.25m for the Gisborne property which had been passed in at auction, giving the couple a profit of around $170,000.

The 34 year-old found himself at the centre of controversy at the finale after being accused of deliberately ramping up bids on Oz and Omar’s property before their record-breaking win.

“I was a dummy bidder who couldn’t afford The Block,’’ he said.
