Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw has revealed he popped the question in his trackies after cooking his fiance a steak.
Brayshaw spilled on the details of his proposal last Wednesday to long-time partner Danielle Frawley.
“I was trying to keep her on her toes,’’ Brayshaw told Channel 7 after Monday night’s game.
“It was her birthday the other week and she was just looking around corners trying to see if there was a little hidden camera.
“I’d got the trackies on, she’d just come out of the shower. I cooked her favourite salad but I made a steak. It was nice but not too nice so she’d expect something. And I overcooked her steak which I’m not too proud of.”
Brayshaw, who hails from a famous sporting family that includes his brother Andrew playing for the Dockers, dad Mark and uncle James, announced his engagement on Thursday to Frawley, the daughter of late St Kilda great Danny Frawley.
“She said yes,’’ the pair posted on social media with a ring emoji.
The happy news was soon met with a flood of excited comments.
Brayshaw said they hadn’t set a wedding date yet but 100 people had asked since.
The couple went to school together at Haileybury with Brayshaw joking that “she had a big crush on me in the early days”.
After the Demons won the 2021 premiership Brayshaw gave an emotional shout-out to Danielle during an interview with Channel 7 after the win.
Her mother Anita said the Frawley and Brayshaw families knew there was a special spark between the pair when they were just seven years old.
Brayshaw admitted there were some tears.
“She saw it coming a mile away,’’ he said of his soon to be mother-in-law.
“It’s been in the works probably three or four years we’ve been holding hands.
“She had a big crush on me early days.
“It’s a good story, you keep trying, you keep going along and eventually good things happen to good people.
“Everyone out there, don’t give up on your dreams, just talk to Danielle. I’m a lucky man, it’s been a good week for me.”
Anita told ABC Radio Melbourne’s Libbi Gorr: “We have been family friends with Debra and Mark (Brayshaw, Angus’s parents) for many, many years, going back 20-25 years, and we were at their house in Sandringham many years ago and Angus and Danielle were there.
“Mark and I picked up straight away. I said ‘there is a spark here Mark’ and we had a great laugh.
“We have a photo of them back in the day when they were seven and we joke about it now that it was right back in those early days that we thought something would happen.
“He is a beautiful man.”
Danny Frawley lost his life in 2019. He played 240 games for the St Kilda Football Club and coached Richmond between 2000-2004.
