Despite fears they may attempt to upstage the historic event, the Duke and Duchess of Susses are set to score an invite to King Charles’ coronation.
In the wake of Prince Harry’s tell-all biography Spare and the couple’s controversial Netflix series, and it’s impact upon the Royal Family, many experts felt the Sussexes could be snubbed from the event to crown King Charles in May.
However it has been revealed, Palace insiders are following a “working assumption” Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will be invited to the coronation in three months’ time on May 6.
Despite Buckingham Palace still reeling from the myriad accusations contained in Spare, a major falling out between the Sussexes and Prince William and his wife Princess Catherine and even claims Prince Harry’s endless sniping contributed to a decline in the late Queen’s health, The Sun reported, that Prince Harry and Ms Markle will be there in person to witness King Charles’ crowning glory.
According to The Sun, officials working on plans for the coronation say there has been no suggestion the Sussexes would be excluded from the event.
Invitations to the 90-minute service are scheduled to be sent out later this month, with the Prince and Princess of Sussex both set to be on the list of 2000 royals, dignitaries and world leaders.
The Palace is working on putting the list together along with the Office of the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
One official involved in coronation planning, told The Sun: “They will definitely be invited, and we are working on the assumption that they will come.”
If they do attend, it is not clear what role the non-working Royals would have in the event itself or the wider festivities planned.
It is hoped the Sussexes will arrive in London in the days leading up to the event, so as any possible awkward first encounters with other members of the Royal Family won’t distract from the coronation.
Asked by Piers Morgan, host of Sky News’ Piers Morgan Uncensored, if the Sussexes should be invited, Mr Sunak refused to say either way.
“I had a feeling you might ask me that,” he said.
“You know I can’t talk about the Royal Family.”
HUGE COST OF A TICKET ‘TO SEE’ HARRY
Tickets to see Prince Harry in his first official appearance since releasing Spare will cost up to $A1500 a pop as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue building their California dream.
It comes as the prince and his wife Meghan Markle were seen at the star-studded wedding vow renewal of Australian actress Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres.
The Montecito party was joined by celebrity A-listers like Kris Jenner, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Katy Perry.
Prince Harry will again surround himself with a cavalcade of “luminaries” when he delivers a speech to the “Uplift” summit in San Francisco on March 7 and 8.
Tickets to the BetterUp event are on sale for $USD995, or about $A1500, to see the Duke talk about mental health alongside other guests including actor Issa Rae, from HBO’s Insecure television series.
Described as an “exchange of ideas and inspirational conversations” about mental health, the two-day summit comes two months before the King’s coronation in May.
Prince Harry has been a “Chief Impact Officer” for the BetterUp platform since March 2021 after leaving the Royal family to find financial independence in the United States.
Mental health has been a running theme in the recently released Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, and the memoir, Spare.
While Prince Harry ran a media blitz to promote Spare, he had not been seen with Ms Markle together since the release of their Netflix project last year.
MEGHAN MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE SINCE DOCO
The Duchess of Sussex has made her first public appearance since the launch of her controversial Netflix documentary, attending a star-studded party with husband Prince Harry.
In a video released by Ellen DeGeneres, the 41-year-old could be spotted cheering, as the talk show host took part in a surprise wedding vow renewal with wife Portia de Rossi.
De Rossi uploaded the video to social media, after surprising her wife of 14 years, walking into their living room wearing her 2008 wedding dress.
The event was attended by a string of big stars, including Kris Jenner, at their Montecito home.
Markle’s husband, Prince Harry was also at the event, where the couple emerged for the first time since their documentary and the release of the Duke of Sussex’s bombshell book, Spare.
The last time Meghan was seen in public was December 6, when the Sussexes attended a gala in New York before the release of their documentary.
Since the release of Prince Harry’s book, Spare, Meghan has generally kept a low profile, with several media outlets reporting the Duchess had concerns over the memoir.
In a five-minute video, Harry could be seen standing separately from Meghan, who cheered as the couple shared a kiss.
A source told Page Six the Sussexes had a “wonderful time” at the event, which fell on de Rossi’s 50th birthday.
“They indeed attended and had a wonderful time celebrating Portia’s birthday and the couple’s vow renewal,” the source told the publication.
Meghan’s friendship with DeGeneres was revealed when the former Suits actor sat down on her cancelled talk show in November 2021.
During the interview, the Duchess revealed she met DeGeneres before meeting Prince Harry, when the former talk show host encouraged Meghan to buy a dog.
“You just looked at me and said, ‘Are you getting that dog? … You have to take it home,’” Meghan told the audience.
“And I said, ‘Well if Ellen says I have to take it home, I’m getting this dog.’”
