MEET Murphy — Melbourne’s own space dog.
The canine astronaut landed half a lunar cycle ago at Yarraville’s Cruickshank Park, rocketing to fame among dog lovers and aeronautics fans alike.
Owner Trudi Baker says her two-year-old border collie has taken well to his new window on the universe.
“Murphy seems to love it!” she says.
“He loves looking out, so we are glad people are happy to look in at him also.”
Trudi saw a similar picture online, and immediately realised the one addition her new townhouse needed was a dog in space.
“We face the park but our backyard is quite small, so I thought it might keep Murphy entertained when we weren’t home,” she says.
“We ordered it online. It comes as a kit with the decal stickers and my husband is a builder so he was able to install it into the fence.
PET DOG TAKES BABY POSSUM FOR A RIDE
“We see a lot of kids and parents pointing at it on their way to kinder and school. It has only been in for about two weeks, but we can see it is creating some talk in the park!”
Local mum Kel Devoil says her son Ravi, 5, reckons Murphy is the coolest dog in town after spotting him at the park.
“Ravi wants a space dog too now!” she says.
