The Source: TAB has head in clouds in Qantas grand final swipe
‘You win some, you lose more’ is an anti-gambling slogan that could also be applied to social media, case in point some of TAB’s work this week.
The Source
Don't miss out on the headlines from The Source. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Our good friends over at Tabcorp were forced into an embarrassing retreat on social media, pulling a post that incorrectly claimed it was cheaper to fly to Europe than it was to fly on Qantas from Brisbane to Melbourne for the Grand Final.
Rather it was three times cheaper to fly at the time. Turns out Gill McLachlan’s (who probably knows a thing or two about GF week) social media team searched ‘highest to lowest’ fares on Webjet which showed the highest business class fares.
Economy fares at the time were $489 from Brisbane to Melbourne on Qantas, not as much as $1400 as the post suggested.
Tabcorp pulled the post from Instagram and Facebook but the team was a bit slow to pull it from X so of course, it was happily reposted.
What’s that gambling warning? “You win some. You lose more.’’ Indeed.
Ed’s MCG role
Good to see the state government catch up with The Source.
As we predicted last week, Eddie McGuire has been appointed to the board of the MCG Trust.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos confirmed the appointment of McGuire on Wednesday.
“He’s one of the most recognisable sports administrators and TV personalities with a lot of energy,” he said.
“I look forward to his contribution.”
