The Source: Staff dealing with new Victorian Treasurer Jaclyn Symes told to ‘stop using economic terms’

Victoria’s new Treasurer Jaclyn Symes appears to be getting off to a rocky start with staff dealing with her told to “stop using economic terms” because she doesn’t understand them.

No one ever said stepping into Tim Pallas’s shoes would be easy.

The former treasurer might have left the state’s public finances as a smoking ruin but after 14 years as treasurer and shadow treasurer he at least knew how to talk the economic talk.

It seems this is not so of his successor.

Word has reached The Source that Pallas’s replacement is taking a moment to get up to speed with the lingo.

Apparently staff dealing with the new treasurer were recently told to keep it simple.

Until further notice they have been instructed to “stop using economic terms and phrases in all communications (emails etc) with the treasurer” as “she doesn’t have a clue what they are all talking about.”
