The Source: Daniel Andrews set to celebrate 51st birthday

July 6 is a significant date for many reasons — Paul met John, a medical breakthrough occurred and Victoria’s fearless leader was born.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

July 6 is a significant date for many reasons.

Beatles Paul McCartney and John Lennon first met on this date.

Louis Pasteur successfully tested an anti-rabies vaccine.

Former US president George W Bush was born on July 6, along with another (more local) politician who, like Bush, has supreme confidence that he will accomplish any and all missions.

That’s right. Premier Daniel Andrews turns 51 on Thursday.

Some readers may recall the hoo ha for Andrews’ 50th birthday, when his wife Catherine posted a black-and-white photo of an unshaven Andrews, prompting some rather unkind commentary about the aesthetics of the facially hirsute premier.

Jodi Grollo, ala Karen from Brighton who famously opposed the restrictions during lockdown, posted a video in response.

“So I hear it’s Dan’s 50th birthday and I should probably bury the hatchet and pass along some birthday wishes,” she said, before opting to not bury the hatchet.

Andrews, on leave last year, is working this week, despite being off work on Tuesday.

It is not known how he plans to celebrate the latest milestone, or whether another commemorative social media photo post awaits Karen of Brighton and every other Victorian.

Hot mic catches prosecutor bagging out cop

There’s a golden rule of the media airwaves — always assume that the microphone is on.

Apparently, there is no such showbiz training up at our courts, where one prosecutor was last week busy blasting a police officer who was unavailable for a hearing.

The said cop, said the prosecutor, needed to be there in case evidence was required or tricky questions needed answering.

The problem for the prosecutor was that his microphone was on. His rant was heard by a bunch of bemused news reporters via Webex.

Do similar issues trouble the Coroners Court?

A Source spy recently noticed a sign stuck to a bench advising lawyers to have their conversations outside court because the mics are always on and recording.

“Presumably, they must have picked up lawyers s***canning people or coroners,” our man asserted.

Pesutto clear as mud about who will pay for his Deeming court bill

There’s still no word on who will — and who will not — pay for Opposition Leader John Pesutto’s day in court.

The man himself still hopes that the Liberal Party might cover the bill.

Yet there are no updates since late last week, after the Herald Sun revealed that Pesutto would be forced to personally fund his legal defence against a defamation action by expelled MP Moira Deeming.

When asked, Pesutto offered little clarity. “It’ll be either the party or myself, either way,” he said.

“I’m not concerned. That matter is with my lawyers and I’m very confident in their assessments of the case.”

Asked if he felt he had the support of the party, the political head of the state Liberals was suitably emphatic in his response.

“I think the party does support me — I’m pretty certain of that,” he said.

Only time can prove if Pesutto’s legal situation can be handled — as he puts it — “well and quickly”.

It’s still not clear who will pay Pesutto’s legal fees in his defamation biff.
