The Source: Centenarian hits high speed to flee Sam Newman interview request

Sam Newman’s bid to interview Save Albert Park president, Formula One opponent and centenarian Peter Goad has hit a speed bump — proving once again that age brings wisdom.

Sam Newman hits out at backlash to controversial guests

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers

Footy great-turned-podcaster Sam Newman has plenty of fans and, well, plenty of those who are not really fans. Divisive is the word we think.

Take this latest example.

A recent edition of the Save Albert Park newsletter (The Source reads these things so you don’t have to) reported that the organisation had been contacted by Newman requesting an interview with Peter Goad, who has long opposed the Formula 1 race being held in the park every March.

Mr Goad, who turned 100 last October and enjoys the title of Emeritus President for the group, was considered to be newsworthy talent by Newman.

After the recent controversy when Newman thought that interviewing neo-Nazis was a good idea, he probably considered Mr Goad to be a safer option for his You Cannot Be Serious podcast.

But Mr Goad shot back: “A person of that character? No thanks”.

Take that, Sam.

Mr Goad is not the only one to resist Newman’s charms recently. The Source also hears rising Liberal MP Sam Groth also said a hard no.
