Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers
A corporate events firm that specialises in hospitality packages at rock shows and sporting events has waitlisted Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem and Metallica concerts for mega-shows in Melbourne.
TCS Events is selling packages for already-announced tours by Crowded House, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Jerry Seinfeld, Iron Maiden, the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and the Australian Open.
However, the company is also pitching to prospective clients “rumoured” shows by Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem and Metallica.
The yet-to-be announced superstars are on a “waitlist ... for rumoured tours that might be heading our way.”
If the tours are locked in, they would be stadium shows.
Speculation is swirling that Beyonce is considering staging her Cowboy Carter tour at the MCG in October.
Promoters have not confirmed Queen Bey’s tour plans, but had previously hinted about a visit Down Under.
A concert industry source said Beyonce is known for “dropping” tour plans on promoters “out of nowhere,” so an “unexpected” visit this year “is not out of the question.”
Springsteen has reloaded his world tour after he cancelled a stack of dates last year to rest and recover from peptic ulcer disease. He said: “I’m on the mend and can’t wait to see you all.”
Springsteen’s illness thwarted moves to play Australian shows in 2024, but promoters are hopeful for dates later this year, or early next year.
Eminem is regularly rumoured for shows, but fans got a glimmer of hope when Australian promoter Paul Dainty told the Herald Sun last year that he was trying to convince the rap superstar to tour.
“Nothing is locked in, there are no dates or venues yet, but we’re hoping,” Dainty said. “We are in talks.”
Metallica’s latest tour, M72, involves the band performing in 72 different cities around the world. Metallica is playing two nights in each city; the shows feature different set lists.
The latest leg of M72 wraps in Mexico City in late September.
By then, Metallica will have played 54 cities, with 18 remaining cities yet to be confirmed.
