Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers

It’s been 28 years since legendary suburban solicitor Dennis Denuto uttered those three famous words “it’s the vibe” in the classic Aussie movie The Castle.

It now seems that sentiment is behind a new marketing campaign coming from the City of Melbourne.

A casting call has gone out for people to appear in the council’s latest production.

“Only in the City of Melbourne is there that frisson, that vibe, that … whatdoyacallit?’’ the spiel goes.

“In this campaign, we’ll meet a mixture of well-known and unknown Melburnians, to tease out the idea of our city’s vibe.’’

Talent taking part can earn up to $150 for five hours on call.

You can be filmed doing Melbourne things, capturing that, um, vibe. Mr Denuto would be proud.

Oh, and this is presumably all coming from Town Hall’s marketing team which produced not one but two April Fool’s jokes — a digital clock for Flinders St Station from the council’s official Insta, and a bronzed football sculpture for City Square from Lord Mayor Nick Reece’s account.

Yes, your rates hard at work.
