It’s long been rumoured on Spring St, but now it appears to be confirmed — Premier Daniel Andrews loves a sneaky ciggie.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

Rich and poor, big and small, we all have our vices.

Take former treasurer Joe Hockey, or former prime minister Bob Hawke, both of whom have been known for their fondness of cigars.

Or take Premier Dan Andrews. It’s long been an open rumour in Spring St that Andrews likes a sneaky ciggie.

Can it now be confirmed?

Governor gets special powers but Dumbeldore a no-show

Hogwarts, sorry, Government House, hosted the Governor-General David Hurley this week in the kind of ceremony which conjured apparitions of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

The occasion was the investiture of the governor into the order of St John, which has enjoyed vice-regal patronage since 1883.

Call it a win for republicanism, of which Victoria’s governor Margaret Gardner is an avowed believer, though you may be alone in the observation.

The ceremony demanded capes and a sword, but sadly no Sorting Hat.

It remains unclear whether the governor was placed in Slytherin or Hufflepuff.

Dumbledore was a no-show.

Peaceful end for Acquaro

Sad news from across the waters with the death of Alfredo Acquaro, the father of slain gangland lawyer Pino “Joe” Acquaro.

Acquaro Senior died peacefully at his home in Bianca, Italy.

He was a well-known businessman and prominent member of Melbourne’s Italian community for many years.

A family death notice described him as a loving father, a pillar of strength and a beacon of wisdom for those who knew him.

Alfredo Acquaro’s strength was tested in 2016 when his son, Joe (pictured) was shot dead.

“His zest for life and all it had to offer was an inspiration to us all,” the notice said.

Acquaro’s strength was tested in 2016 when Joe was shot dead as he left his Gelobar business in Lygon St, Brunswick East.

Vincenzo Crupi will face trial for his murder after being charged by the homicide squad.

Acquaro Sen’s thanksgiving mass will be held at St Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in West Melbourne, where his son was once farewelled (as were underworld figures Alphonse Gangitano and Jason and Mark Moran) on Friday.
