Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.
Pop provocateur Morrissey was back to his eloquent best while addressing a scrapped Perth show during his Melbourne concert on Monday.
The former Smiths frontman cancelled his show at the Perth Concert Hall last Friday “due to unforeseen logistical issues”.
Morrissey did little to disguise his disdain for the Perth palaver at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre.
The singer-songwriter, who is touring a “40 Years Of Morrissey” set, said the Perth venue listed on its website artists who were scheduled to visit, and their genre.
“Blah, blah blah; pop, blah blah blah; rock ... Morrissey, nostalgia,” he said, glumly adding: “Every possible discouragement, every possible discouragement.”
Dessau gets real
Former governor Linda Dessau has revealed an unexpected passion.
“I love reality TV,” she says. “Almost all of them – Farmer Wants a Wife, The Bachelor.
“(But) I do draw the line at Love Island.”
Dessau was the guest speaker at the Victorian Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business Lunch on Tuesday.
She lavished praise on Queen Elizabeth and King Charles – she attended the latter’s coronation.
She said they were “genuinely interested and very knowledgeable about Victoria”.
“(They had a) desire to know if things are tough, if there are floods or fires, or any things that they might be able to be of some comfort in responding to.
“(The Queen) was wise, she knew world history and world events and world leaders. She was very funny and she loved sport.”
Dessau described being governor as “the best role in the world” because “you can write the script for how you contribute to the community, so truly I miss that more than anything.”
