Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers
For a socialist leftie whose X fanbase consisted of “eat the rich” progressives, Dan sure cultivates a lot of billionaire mates.
The former Victorian premier, whose longstanding friendship with Lindsay Fox was well documented, now appears to have been added to the payroll of fellow Melbourne rich-lister Anthony Pratt.
Dan has been hired as a consultant by the cardboard box king, according to media reports, along with former prime minister Scott Morrison.
Both will pick up $100,000 for their valuable advice.
Dan joins a bulging Pratt stable of politicians providing consulting services, including Tony Abbott and Paul Keating, while Pratt’s family estate, Raheen in Kew, regularly attracts the nation’s rich, famous and powerful.
Since stepping down as premier in September last year, Dan has registered two companies called Glencairn Street Pty Ltd and Wedgetail Partners Pty Ltd.
While he is the sole director of both companies, Wedgetail has a second shareholder as Zheng Wei, Dan’s multicultural adviser while premier.
Mr Zheng, who is known as Marty Mei, accompanied the premier during frequent visits to China and was integral to the government’s policy on China.
While Dan won over X with his socialist leanings, the long-serving premier always maintained a healthy relationship with the states key business figures.
As well as winning the support of Fox – who went into bat for him during Covid lockdowns – James Packer famously backed Dan in at the 2014 election with Packer confidante Lloyd Williams caught on camera telling the then opposition leader “James is going to kick every goal he can for you”.
