Trucking magnate Lindsay Fox held his 87th birthday celebration at his Essendon Fields Airport hangar on Friday, with a roll call of politicians, sporting types, captains of industry and bigwigs turning up in tartan and kilts for the Scottish Highlander themed shindig.
There was nary a woman in sight, albeit as the designated drivers at drop off, for the men’s only affair.
Fox said he tried but could not trim the 150 guest list of his “best mates” arriving to a drink of Chivas Regal scotch whiskey for what is surely the richest Men’s Shed in Melbourne’s history.
A large cartoon cutout of the up-market trucker greeted guests such as former Victorian premiers Dan Andrews and Jeff Kennett, Liberal leader Peter Dutton, former Geelong premiership captain Joel Selwood and teammate Tom Hawkins, Carlton president Luke Sayers, former Collingwood prez Eddie McGuire, businessman David Deague, radio kings Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft and former AFL boss Gill McLachlan who arrived with Fox’s best mate and executive of his estate, Bill Kelty, former ACTU secretary who drove himself to the event in a smart car.
His son, Avalon Airport’s David Fox wished his Dad a happy birthday before the shed roller door was shut tight as the bagpipes played on.
The powerful crowd adhered to the Scottish dress code with enthusiasm, with an overwhelming amount of protruding bellies, grog blossoms noses and silver hair, and we don’t mean silver hair foxes!
Keep on trucking Lindsay!
