Oliver has been crowned the most popular boys’ baby name in Victoria for the seventh year in a row.

And the regal Charlotte — which has been among the top names for the past decade — stepped back into the top spot for girls in 2020.

There were 546 boys and 413 girls blessed with the two names in the last year — out of an incredible 75,000 babies born across the state.

The popular boys’ name was closely followed by Noah, Willian and Jack, while Amelia, Olivia and Mia were all favourites for newborn girls.

There were some new additions, including Archie and Theodore, which appeared in the top 20 for the first time ever.

Meanwhile River jumped 49 spots to 57th place and Rosie climbed 54 spots to 62nd.

Taylor Blencowe and partner Nick Aidonis, both 27 and from Aintree, welcomed their fourth child in March and named him Oliver.

The young couple had originally liked the name for the eldest son, Lucas, aged 4, but said it fitted their newborn from the moment they laid eyes on him.

“We were down to three names, and as soon as we saw him he was an Oliver for sure,” Ms Blencowe said.

“It’s a really beautiful name.”

Ms Blencowe said Oliver, now 9 months, was a “bubbly and really happy” baby who had brightened the chaos of 2020.

“He’s just changed everything — he’s such a beautiful kid,” she said.

Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes, who will announce the list on Friday, congratulated all families who welcomed a new baby in the year of the pandemic.

“As if 2020 wasn’t momentous enough, Victorian parents welcomed over 75,000 babies to the world,” Ms Symes said.

“Congratulations to each and every family on their new addition.

“Naming a child is often the first of many important decisions we make as parents – and it’s always fascinating to see which names are the most popular each year.”

Oliver, Jack, William, Olivia and Charlotte have all claimed a top five spot every year for the last decade.
