An insomniac who took drastic measures to try and quieten his noisy neighbours has found himself in court after being charged by police.
Adam Ward, 36, was suffering from sleepless nights and wasn’t being helped by the noise coming from the apartment above his inner city flat.
In a bizzare bid to keep his neighbours at bay a frustrated Mr Ward filled the lock of their front door with glue.
When they changed the lock, he did it again.
And when they changed they lock a third time, Mr Ward again reached for the glue.
The Bureau of Meteorology IT whizz, who lists his occupation online as a Cloud Engineer, appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates Court today charged with criminal damage.
The court heard Mr Ward was unaware that the noisy apartment was in fact being run as an AirBnb.
Its owners were left with a $642 repair bill, which Mr Ward has agreed to pay.
His lawyer, Sam Norton, applied for Mr Ward to be placed on the court’s diversion program.
Mr Norton said his client was suffering from insomnia at the time.
The program allows mainly first-time offenders to escape conviction by undertaking to comply with certain conditions to benefit the offender, the victim, and the community as a whole.
No finding of guilt is recorded against the accused.

A diversion must also be agreed to by police.
Magistrate Phillip Goldberg agreed to place Mr Ward on the program.
“You did an extremely unusual thing,” Mr Goldberg said.
But he said the chances of Mr Ward reoffending were unlikely, given his clean criminal history and the bizarre aspect of his offending.
Mr Ward has written a letter of apology and must repay his neighbours $642.
He has since moved from the CBD apartment block.
