His long-term girlfriend, Mikayla Petrovski, said she couldn’t imagine why “anyone would want to do this to him”.

“There’s no way he would do this to himself,” she told the Herald Sun.

“Nathan was my world, my best friend and soulmate.”

The 20-year-old described their bond as “unbreakable”.

“We’ve been together for three years,” she said. “We were inseparable. I don’t know how I can go on without him.”

Ms Petrovski said she was with Mr Khoury the night before he died and would cherish their last moments together.

“He got a tattoo with my initial and a crown on his wrist,” she said.

“He was so happy and bubbly, we were both so happy. There’s no way in the world he would do this to himself.”

Ms Petrovski said she was at work when she got the “worst phone call of my life”.

“I had all these missed calls and texts from his family … I knew something was wrong,” she said.

“I called back and just heard ‘Nathan is gone … Nathan is dead’.”

The hairdresser described her grief as “something like I’ve never experienced”.

“I’m numb and in disbelief. He was the reason why I woke up in the morning,” she said.

“His smile is something I’ll never forget … it was a smile like no other. He just made me so happy. I’m broken.”
