Controversial businessman Geoffrey Edelsten will be laid to rest in a private funeral on Wednesday.
Details of the service seen by the Herald Sun reveal it will be a small event, a far cry from the colourful, flamboyant lifestyle of the former Sydney Swans owner.
Edelsten’s funeral is expected to be attended by only close friends and family, including his surviving brother, at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
None of the late entrepreneur’s ex-wives are thought to be attending.
Edelsten, 78, died at his Balencea Apartments home on St Kilda Road on Friday.
Despite Edelsten’s flashy life, his final months, according to friends, were spent as a recluse.
His carer, his brother and the cleaner who found his body were at his apartment in the hours after his death.
Edelsten’s death has led to a wave of comments on how he chose to live, with some describing him as pleasant, respectful and a gentleman while others focused on his penchant for much younger brides and disgraced business dealings.
His former wife Gabi Grecko took to Instagram on Saturday to mourn her former husband, choosing photos over words.
The New York model turned aspiring rapper, performing under the name GLittA FoxX, posted photos of her and Edelsten from their time together.
One album of photos was captioned “how I feel today” and included photos of Grecko visibly upset.
He separated from the now US-based artist in 2015 a matter of months after they wed in a registry office in North Melbourne and posed for their official wedding photos among bins and graffiti in Melbourne’s Hosier Lane.
Edelsten’s other high profile ex-wife Brynne Edelsten sent her “deepest and sincerest condolences” over her former husband’s death.
“Brynne and Geoffrey enjoyed some truly beautiful moments, including their wedding in 2009. While their marriage ended after five years together, Brynne remains grateful for the good times the couple shared,” a spokesman said.
The pair married in an over-the-top $3m ceremony that featured a helicopter, a Bentley, 550 guests, circus performers and appearances by Jason Alexander and Fran Drescher.
