One of the biggest F45 gyms left in Australia has announced it’s shutting its doors as woes continue to deepen for the embattled fitness chain.
The owners of F45 Prahran informed members of its shock closure on Friday morning, adding to a growing pile of defunct gyms in the Australian chain known for its 45-minute high intensity interval training classes.
“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to F45 Prahran,” they wrote on social media.
“We want to say an incredible thanks to all of our members and for the beautiful community we have built.
“Here’s to all the hard training, all the laughs, all the goals made and all the wonderful people who have made the studio what it is over the years.”
Prominent Melbourne identities including Collingwood champion Dane Swan and My Kitchen Rules star Ash Pollard were known to train at the gym.
A member of three years told the Herald Sun the Prahran gym had only just finished a large renovation in July.
“It was totally unexpected — everyone got two days notice of the closure (on Friday),” he said.
The member said management confirmed refunds were going to be issued in the coming weeks.
F45 Training was at one point the king of fitness, once receiving celebrity endorsements from the likes of Mark Wahlberg, David Beckham and Greg Norman.
But the success story soon soured after multiple class actions from investors and plunging stock prices, leading to the company being delisted from the stock market and multiple executives quitting.
As a result various gyms began collapsing or closing down across Australia.
Last year more than 150 Australian F45 locations were up for sale. At the time, that made up 30 per cent of F45’s total of 500 gyms across the country.
