SHANE Martin’s lawyer has questioned why Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton gave “special treatment” to two au pairs with links to “contacts in high places”.

John Kotsifas, who fought the father of Richmond star Dustin Martin’s legal battle against deportation to New Zealand on character grounds, has weighed into the scandal that has engulfed Mr Dutton and AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan.

Mr Dutton has come under fire for revoking the cancellation of a visas for au pairs, including a French national planning to work as a volunteer for Mr McLachlan’s cousin.

The minister is also facing accusations he may have misled parliament over the matter.

Brownlow medallist Dane Swan lampooned the situation on behalf of his mate Martin yesterday, tweeting: “Hey Gil you got a contact for a mate of mine? His old man can’t get back in the country for some f----d up reason and they could use your help. Much appreciated.”

Mr McLachlan said on Friday he was just trying to "help a friend" when he forwarded an email from his second cousin to Mr Dutton’s office, saying he did not expect to receive special treatment.

Another au pair, who was due to work for one of Mr Dutton’s former Queensland police colleagues, was also granted a reprieve.

Alexandra Deuwel, saved at the AFL boss’s request, again declined to explain how she was released from immigration detention, as she continued teaching yoga in the south of France.

“No, no you are not allowed to make that (photograph),’’ she said.

“Leave me alone. I am going to the police,’’ she told the Herald Sun.

She made the plea to be left alone as she departed the gym at the conclusion of an evening yoga class and drove off in her small, blue car.

She is scheduled to hold a sunrise yoga retreat on Saturday on the beach at Hyeres, in the Cote d’Azur.

Mr Kotsifas said thousands of tourists had visas cancelled each year and were deported.

“None of these people are given the minister’s contact number to request for his personal intervention,” he said.

“None of these people have contacts in high places and none of them are asked to give an undertaking that they will not work if allowed to enter Australia under a tourist visa.

Clearly, the au pairs have been given special and unusual treatmentfor reasons unknown.”

Martin, who has convictions for drug offences but was never jailed, was deported in 2016 for his links to the Rebels motorcycle club.

He has since won a High Court challenge but remains in New Zealand after Mr Dutton publicly stated he would be refused re-entry.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison backed Mr Dutton on Friday, saying allegations he misled parliament were “mud-slinging”.
