SHANE Martin says it felt “unbelievable” to watch his son help Richmond to its first flag in 37 years.

He was in tears after the game as he watched from New Zealand with his wife Adriana.

Dustin topped off a brilliant week taking out the Norm Smith medal as well as the Brownlow.

“It’s unbelievable. They did themselves proud,” he said.

“There was not one person who stood out in the whole team.

“They did themselves proud, I can’t believe it, 100 per cent.”

Dustin kicked two goals and collected a Richmond high 28 possessions for the match.

James Hird presented him with the Norm Smith.

Shane said he was proud of his son and thanked captain Trent Cotchin who had supported Dustin.

Shane has been forced to watch the match from Auckland after he was deported last year because of his links with the Rebels motorcycle club.

He watched the match at The Right Track sports bar in the centre of town, which was decorated with posters of Dustin and black and yellow balloons.

Shane said he was proud that Dustin won the Norm Smith but that individual honours were not the most important thing.

“We won, what a dream,” he said.

He also singled out coach Damien Hardwick, who narrowly survived a challenge to his job last year after Richmond missed the finals.

“He’s the man, Dimma got it right. The team loves him, Dustin loves him.

“How good is this for Richmond?”
