IMMIGRATION Minister Peter Dutton has poured cold water on Dustin Martin’s father Shane’s bid to return to Australia.
Mr Dutton said Mr Martin had been the president of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang — which was involved in drugs, extortion and robbery — and he was confident he was not “of good character”.

Mr Dutton said the court case involving Mr Martin hinged on a “technicality” and regardless of the outcome, he’d still need a visa to return to Australia.
“Nobody is bleating about the other 150 or so bikies that we’ve cancelled the visas of,” he told reporters this morning.
“People have got an interest in Mr Martin because he’s got an incredibly talented son.”

He said people should “put all of that emotion to one side” and ignore the “hype” about Dustin Martin’s father being home for Christmas.
“It doesn’t change my mind in relation to the evidence that I’ve seen, the intelligence that is available,” Mr Dutton said.
“I don’t believe he is of good character and I’ve been very determined to go through every fact in relation to the Martin case.”
Mr Dutton said he’d made a decision to cancel visas in relation to Mr Martin and a number of other bikies “involved in the distribution of drugs and organised crime activities”.
“Dusty is a great footy player, but it doesn’t make his old man a good person,” he said on Triple M this morning.
While Mr Martin may be able to apply for a visa after the court case, Mr Dutton said he’d have the final say.
“I would have to make a decision about whether or not he satisfies the character test before that visa would be issued,” he said.
The court case has been adjourned until December 19.
