Daniel Andrews has dismissed speculation over his political future, saying he’s got fuel left in the tank after the shock resignation of WA Premier Mark McGowan.

Daniel Andrews insists he’s not exhausted despite having been in the top job for nine years and leading the state through the toughest pandemic orders in Australia.

The Premier made the comments in the wake of the shock resignation of Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan after six years as leader.

Mr McGowan said his decision to step away from public office was due to exhaustion.

Despite ongoing speculation about his own political future, Mr Andrews on Tuesday insisted he still had fuel in the tank and wasn’t going anywhere.

“No. I’m all good and there’s a lot to get on with,” he said.

“These jobs are an amazing privilege and there are no easy days in these jobs.

“That’s not a complaint, that’s just a fact because the work that you do impacts people in every corner of our states and if you have a bit of ambition then you can influence things well beyond your state.”

Mr Andrews applauded Mr McGowan for his work and said he would leave a great legacy.

“I think we should perhaps take the opportunity to reflect on the amazing work that Mark did as the leader of our state and the leader of his state,” he said.

“He’s a very good friend of mine and I wish Sarah and him all the very best.

“It’s a rare thing in politics to go on your own terms and that’s exactly what Mark McGowan has done.

“I think he can be very, very proud on the work that he has done.”
