Daniel Andrews has laughed off suggestions he is planning to resign as Premier.
Broadcaster Neil Mitchell on Thursday went to air with rumours that Mr Andrews was planning to resign in June.
While he said he didn’t believe the rumours, Mitchell said he had heard them from multiple credible sources.
Mr Andrews scoffed when asked about the potential resignation.
“You shouldn’t listen to rumours,” Mr Andrews said.
“I’ve got a lot of work to do and I’m very focused on getting that job done.”
Speculation about how long Mr Andrews will remain in the top job has been mounting since before the pandemic.
There had been suggestions he was poised to exit politics ahead of last year’s election.
Ahead of the election campaign Mr Andrews committed to serving a full four-year term if returned to power.
“It’s my expectation that I’m there for as long as the community and my colleagues want me, to work as hard as I possibly can to get things done,” he said at the time.
“There’s a lot of things to get on with. In the last eight years, all that we’ve been able to achieve, it didn’t happen by accident and it didn’t happen in the four years before we came to government when the Liberals were in government. So I want to keep building on change and reform.
“It’s me, Cath and the kids ... we’re all in this. We’re running again, because it’s only a Labor government that will do what matters and get things done.”
Mr Andrews was first elected as Premier in 2014.
Prior to that, he had been leader of the Labor party since 2010.
