Celebrity manager Ralph Carr facing court over company collapse

Dustin Martin’s embattled celebrity manager Ralph Carr is finally set to face the music of his company collapse — in front of a Supreme Court. But any legal woes have yet to stop Carr’s bids to pick up some more high-profile clients.

High-profile sport and entertainment manager Ralph Carr will be interviewed by liquidators of his failed RCM Touring company at Sydney’s Supreme Court.

Carr is set to appear at 11am on Monday.

The company was originally wound up in June 2018 over an unpaid debt.

He will be questioned in an examination session by the liquidator investigating why the company collapsed.

RCM Touring was first registered in June 2016, with Mr Carr as director and secretary.

According to court papers, Big Deal Touring claims it is owed $120,300 by Carr’s company RCM Touring for big-name hologram tours including Elvis Presley, Priscilla Presley, and Roy Orbison.

It has previously been reported that liquidators have used their powers to access a Commonwealth Bank account linked to RCM Touring.

Liquidators also two years ago filed a report to the corporate watchdog reporting Mr Carr and his company for failing to provide the books for the company.

Mr Carr has directorships of at least 10 other companies. He manages Richmond star Dustin Martin, helping him sign an $8 million deal in 2017.

The upcoming examination comes as Carr puts his hand up to manage soon-to-be out of contract Collingwood star Jordan De Goey.

Carr, who negotiated Martin’s monster contract of up to $1.3 million a year in 2017, said: “I haven’t met with Jordan DeGoey, but I know my name has been linked to him now he has left his manager.”

“I don’t chase players but I am open to every elite athlete in this country, so I’m happy to talk to him.

“I think I can be of benefit to the elite players on and off the field, as I have been to Dustin Martin.

“I’d rather do a smaller number of athletes and do them properly than have a lot of players, I want to keep this a boutique company.”

But even before his court date, and despite a hopeful attitude towards potential clients, it has been a tumultuous couple of years for Carr.

In October 2019, his luxury Hawthorn home sold after spending more than 200 days on the market — and for a million-dollar price drop.

The price achieved by the impressive 26 Shakespeare Grove property is undisclosed. It had most recently been advertised for $10-$11 million, following a discount from an initial $12-$13.2 million price guide.

CoreLogic records show Carr – whose clients include Richmond dual-Norm Smith medallist Dustin Martin – paid $7.55 million for the 1318sq m property back in 2013.

A highlight of the Shakespeare Grove home is a stately billiards room where Martin was filmed by The Footy Show playing pool after signing a lucrative contract with the Tigers.

Also, in July last year it was revealed Carr had taken out a new mortgage on his splendid 229 Lennox St, Richmond, property with UCA Funds Management, the ethical investment arm of the Uniting Church.

Carr’s Belding Hills company took out the original mortgage in March 18, 1996, owing $880,000 to the Commonwealth Bank.
