Biggest lolly shop in Australia to open at Highpoint Shopping Centre on November 11

The ultimate sweet tooth’s paradise is about to open in Melbourne and Guinness World Records will fall when it does. Watch the video of the exclusive first look inside.

Australia’s largest lolly shop is set to open in Highpoint Shopping Centre with plenty to delight kids and adults alike.

Tom’s Confectionery Warehouse will open its doors on Saturday with the main attraction being a life size “human claw” that lets you grab as many lollies as you can.

The Herald Sun was lucky enough to be given one of the first ever goes on the claw and we have a confection to make – there is no feeling quite like being suspended 3.5 metres above a ballpit full of treats.

There was a serious amount of variety to be grabbed once we’d been lowered into the pit, with everything from a stocking filled with Christmas lollies to an XL garlic-flavoured pickle part of our reporter’s haul.

The claw is set to be a huge hit both for kids and those of us not quite ready to say goodbye to our inner child.

Tom’s is also gunning for a Guiness World Record for the largest pick and mix aisle anywhere on earth.

The aisle features over a whopping 1,000 varieties of sweets – with tasters heavily encouraged.

Along with familiar favourites, there are some seriously out there flavours for customers to try out such as coconut rough infused with chilli and mango popcorn.

These are part of a menu curated over six months by “Willy Wonka” owner Adiel Ben-Karmona together with his friend and business partner, celebrity chef Adrian Richardson.

“It’s all about the variety, that’s what brings people through the door,” says Ben-Karmona, who estimates he put on 5 kgs as he tasted every flavour combination imaginable in the run up to opening day.

Just don’t ask Ben-Karmona what his favourite lolly is.

“I don’t have a favourite, I like everything,” he says with the air of a man who takes his candy seriously.

“It’s like asking me who’s my favourite child.”

Other madcap features of the lolly superstore include dinosaurs customers can ride around the shop, a candy throne at the entrance and even a full-sized unicorn.

“We are more than just a lolly store,” says Mr Ben-Karmona. “We want Tom’s Confectionery Warehouse to be a place that inspires anyone who walks through our doors, young or old, to bring some fun to their day-to-day lives”.

Beloved classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has clearly been a huge inspiration, with a kaleidoscope of sights, smells and sounds assaulting the senses as you walk around the store.

Tom’s will even be running a Golden Ticket-style competition to give one lucky customer the experience of a lifetime in the run up to Christmas.

Whoever wins better have a sweet tooth.
