Rich lister Andrew Fox jumped into the middle of a street brawl in South Yarra to save a woman who was being punched by thugs.
The son of upmarket trucker Lindsay Fox was having a business dinner with two people from Perth at top restaurant France Soir on Tuesday night when an ugly fight broke out outside the restaurant.
Fox stressed to the Herald Sun he did not want to be called a hero, but could not stand by when a woman was being attacked.
“When I saw a woman hit and I’m in the middle of a restaurant and everyone is doing nothing, I can’t do that, it’s not the way I was raised,” Fox said.
“When I saw that I got up and I went straight out and said ‘guys stop this, this is wrong.’
“I didn’t want to see a woman hit and I don’t like guys fighting, I think it is just stupid.”
Footage taken by shocked onlookers on Toorak showed up to five people punching on. A woman can be heard from behind the camera saying “Oh my god, Oh my god, they aren’t even on Chapel St”, as the fight escalated.
Several waiters from the French bistro came outside to stop the brawl which broke out suddenly in front of the packed renowned restaurant just before 8pm.
Fox is seen in the video playing peacemaker and trying to stop the fight, later giving one of the street brawlers a tissue to clean up blood from his face.
“It’s not a nice thing to see. I don’t want to see fighting,” Fox said.
“France Soir is my favourite restaurant in the world and all the waiters are great people.
“A woman should never be hit full stop,” he said.
“I looked outside and there was some confusion and hustling outside. I saw this craziness going on and I saw a woman getting hit. I didn’t get involved in what it was about but my pure role when I saw it was to go out and try and sort it out. Somehow it turned out okay.”
“My father and mother tell me I’m a lover not a fighter.”
Police confirmed they arrived at the scene just before 8pm on Tuesday after reports of a brawl along Toorak Rd.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said that members involved in the reported brawl had dispersed by the time officers arrived.
France Soir did not want to provide a statement when called.
Andrew Fox plays a major role in managing family empire LinFox and is the overseer of the family’s property investments.
His parents Lindsay and Paula Fox are also regulars at France Soir along with many of Melbourne’s most influential families.
