Teen rapper releases music video on life and trying times in Don Dale Youth Detention Centre

The young man is adamant he’s broken the cycle and is looking towards a career in music after releasing a deadly music video. WATCH IT HERE.

ASPIRING rapper Joseph Ebborn spent the last six years of his life in and out of Don Dale Youth Detention Centre and is adamant he’s broken the cycle as he tries to build a music career.

Joseph, known as JRAE, has released a music video from a song he wrote and recorded while in Don Dale.

The song ‘One Chance’, discusses time “in the system” and life experiences from his youth.

The video was shot and edited by fellow rapper Riley Page, known as Riley P, who met JRAE when he worked for a stint at Don Dale.

“It’s about someone like myself finding it hard to grow, being raised by a system that only wants to make money out of you, it’s hard,” Joseph said.

“I was expressing myself through pen and paper but I wasn’t really doing recording until someone told me I should get into it.”

He said the response online to the video clip has been “overwhelming” but positive in the way “it feels like someone’s listening, that people that maybe can relate to me”.

JRAE has nine songs up his sleeve that he recorded in Dondale with a microphone in a block, which has been paid to be produced as radio quality sound.

He said since the project other kids in Don Dale have been inspired by his efforts to put energy towards their own creative pursuits and keep writing.

Riley P said the next goal was to get Joseph a live performance gig.
