myAlice discount voucher scheme labelled a ‘resounding success’ with $2.7M in sales

THE overall benefit from the three-month discount voucher scheme has been revealed after the third and final round of $150,000 was spent in three weeks.

THE myAlice program has been hailed as a “resounding success” by the Alice Springs Town Council after 123 local businesses cleaned up with a combined $2,744,468 in sales over three months.

Discounts totalling $400,000 were dispensed to the community over from December 2020 to March 2021, where the economic injection was steadily sustained with an overall multiplier of 6.8 per cent – every $1 invested in discounts saw a return of $6.87.

The myAlice initiative was introduced to support the Alice Springs business community

adversely impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On November 10 2020 Council approved $200,000 for the myAlice discount voucher

program which was matched by the Northern Territory Government (NTG).

During the rounds, more than 10,000 registered customers had access to daily discounts totalling $40 per day.

The council report detailed informal feedback from businesses through surveys which is revealed as “overwhelmingly positive”.

“myAlice generated new customers; increased the number of sales; and increased sale

values for the vast majority of participating businesses,” it reads.

“Respondents also thought the program could be used to address other economic

challenges, subject to available funds. If this was to be considered in the future, it was

suggested that a mobile application would be more accessible for customers and

efficient for businesses.”
