A PLAYGROUND for adults in the form of a nightclub or an ice-skating rink are among the many suggestions from NT News readers on how the former Palmerston Bunnings site could be repurposed.

When the NT News revealed the 19,500sq m site was being put on the market by NTC Property, plenty of ideas rolled in from readers.

“Hello Ikea? Aldi? Prime opportunity for you guys to have a truly national footprint,” one reader said, calling for some well-known international brands.

“Excellent spot for DFO shopping precinct.”

An Aldi store was also a popular option- though the company has said it isn’t looking to move to the NT in the short-term.

Others had a more topical take on what to do with it.

“*cough* Dan Murphy’s *cough* … or, the NT’s largest multi room, multi-floor nightclub akin to Home Bar in Darling Harbour,” one reader suggested.

Some thought the site was ripe for activation during the wet season.

“Would make an amazing indoor rollerskate venue or daily wet season food markets,” one reader said.

“Rollerskating. rock-climbing. indoor sports … ten pin bowling venue …,” Karen Ruthenburg said.

The sports theme continued, with many hoping it could help inspire children into an active lifestyle.

“Hope whoever buys it puts it to good use for our bored youth,” Misti-starr James said.

“A roller drome or youth shack where they can go hang out and play pool.”

A brewery, indoor motocross centre, an indoor kids playground, homeless shelter and indoor beach resort or snow field were also suggested

The site is currently leased to Bunnings until June 2021.

Expression of interest close at 4pm on Thursday, December 3.
