THE Territory’s latest pride and joy is finally ready for all to enjoy, with the new $58m Palmerston Bunnings officially opening its doors today.
Complex manager Clayton Leeder said after more than a year of construction, the Palmerston Bunnings team was looking forward to welcoming customers into their new home.
“The team have worked really hard to get this done for this week,” Mr Leeder said.

“I can’t wait for customers to come into the store and see the newer range, the wider range we have.”
Mr Leeder said the new facility in Yarrawonga was about 17,000sq m – almost three times the size of the old Bunnings in the Palmerston CBD, and served customers and their lifestyle better.
“We’ve got an additional 20,000 lines, a seven line drive through and we have a bigger nursery offering with undercover landscape,” he said.
“We have 450 car spaces underneath and 19 out the front, that’s really important for customers.
“Whether it’s rain or sunshine, they’ve got somewhere to get out of the extreme weather conditions.”
With construction finally coming to a close, 100 former and 70 new staff will move in to the brand new store.
As part of their opening, the store has already donated equipment, materials and PPE to several local and greater Northern Territory organisations, such as the Jabiru Men’s Shed, Helping People Achieve, and the Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation to help engage the community.
Palmerston’s favourite dinosaur Big Kev will also be ready to welcome shoppers and the first Bunnings sausage sizzle will also take place on Saturday.
“It’s so exciting for the community to have Big Kev here, he’s been around since 2007 and just to rebuild him and put him out the front for our customers is going to be outstanding,” Mr Leeder said.
“It’s certainly a special store, being the only Bunnings to ever have a dinosaur living next to the outdoor nursery. Given he’s a herbivore, I’d say he’s pretty happy there.”
