LEFTOVER land next to Palmerston’s new Bunnings Warehouse is could undergo a $1.2 million redevelopment.
Recently lodged planning documents show the plot of land, which is being used as a pad site for the Bunning’s store that is being constructed, would be turned into a mixed use development with two single-storey buildings and 59 carparking spaces.
One of the shopfronts, at 715 sqm of floor space, would accommodate showroom sales, a shop and a warehouse.

The second tenancy, much smaller at 215 sqm of floor space, would be for a shop that sells good or services, excluding servos and restaurants.
“There will be benefit to the community and businesses in the wider locality,” planning documents stated.
“The proposed showroom sales outlets and associated warehouse and shop for Tenancy 1 providing an additional choice in the display and sale of merchandise to the residents of Palmerston, while also creating new local employment opportunities.”
The triangular lot is part of a larger 40,000 sqm parcel at Pierssene Rd, Yarrawonga, bought by Bunnings Warehouse’s parent company Wesfarmers three years ago.
The new $58 million Bunnings Warehouse Palmerston will span over 17,000 sqm and is more than twice the size of the current store.
It will feature an outdoor nursery, timber trade sales area, building materials yard and an indoor playground and cafe.
Perhaps more importantly, it will be the home of Big Kev, the giant fibreglass dinosaur.
The 18m brachiosaurus previously lived alongside the Stuart Highway at Yarrawonga, but had to be taken down in mid-2019 because of the plan to develop the site he was on.
Bunnings chief operating officer Debbie Poole also confirmed there was no date for the return of the sausage sizzle, which was halted due to coronavirus restrictions.

“The sausage sizzle is an integral community fundraiser and we know both our team and customers are eager to see it return,” Ms Poole said.
“Unfortunately, this and other in-store activities remain suspended while we focus on providing a safe environment in our stores during this time.”
