On August 15, 1945, then-prime minister Ben Chifley announced the end of World War II.
That milestone date would become Victory in the Pacific Day and, 75 years on, remains one of the most pivotal moments in history.
Commemorations may be a little different amid coronavirus lockdowns this year, but you can still mark the occasion with the Herald Sun’s Victory in the Pacific Day 75th anniversary magazine.
The 24-page VP Day 75th anniversary commemorative magazine will be inserted in the Herald Sun on Saturday, August 15.
It includes:
- Incredible tales of brave Victorians who fought in the war and protected the home front, as well as the arrival of US troops who changed Australia forever.
- Patrick Carlyon’s stirring account of what the end of World War II meant for Australians.
- Moving recollections of how we celebrated VP Day and the end of World War II.
- The tale of the secret Mallacoota bunker that was one of Victoria’s most significant World War II sites.
- Details of how Victorians can mark VP Day 75th anniversary from home, including through activities and virtual exhibitions.
VP Day is a chance to honour, recognise and remember our veterans and those who supported them.
Get your copy of the VP Day 75th Anniversary Commemorative Magazine with your Herald Sun on Saturday, August 15, or read it in the digital edition.
